Calling all shutterbugs! No one is going to adopt a dog they don’t know exists. The primary way prospective adopters learn about our dogs is through Petfinder or Poodle Rescue’s website, followed by word of mouth. Hands down, the most effective way to help our dogs find a forever home is to get them photographed and posted on our website via Petfinder.
We typically have around 50 dogs in our adoption program. Dogs come and go every day so picture taking is a never ending process. We have one volunteer who does most of the photography of our dogs and then sorts, trims, enhances and posts the photos on our website via Petfinder. She’s been doing this on a consistent basis for three years. We know that most people aren’t able to make that kind of long term commitment, but we feel certain there are other people out there who would enjoy photographing the dogs on occasion.
If you like photography and think you might enjoy learning more about how we go about it here at Poodle Rescue, we’d love to hear from you. After a brief orientation, you can operate independently on your own schedule or schedule a convenient time to do it in tandem with our current photographer. In fact, she’ll be happy to hold the dogs for you while you take photos if you can meet at a mutually convenient time. So come on and email us at [email protected]. We want to hear from you!

This is one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities we have and a great way to get to know a lot of the dogs in our adoption program. It is crucial for us to get the dogs we have available in front of the public. No one is going to adopt a dog they don’t know exists. The primary way adopters learn about our dogs is through Petfinder or Poodle Rescue’s website, followed by word of mouth. Hands down, the most effective way to help our dogs find a forever home is to get them photographed and posted on our website via Petfinder. We typically have around 50 dogs in our adoption program. Dogs come and go every day so picture taking is a never ending process. Volunteers are needed to help get the dogs out of their kennels, hold and pose them while they are being photographed, and then return them to their kennels. Each photography session typically requires a minimum of a two hour commitment on a volunteer’s part. If you’re interested, we’ll forward your contact information to one of the volunteers who does our photography and they will arrange time to meet you at Poodle Rescue and lead you through the process. Unfortunately, not all our dogs are listed on our website due to lack of volunteer manpower. We’d like to see that change and you can help us make that happen.

The only thing that’s more effective than photographs and profiles in getting a dog adopted is videos. Videos give the dogs dimension and literally bring them to life. The primary way we get the dogs in Poodle Rescue of Houston’s adoption program in front of the public is by posting them to our website via PetFinder. PetFinder offers a video option. Have you ever checked out PetFinder at www.petfinder.com? If you do, you will notice that almost none of the dogs listed (nationwide) have a video. When people see a video icon on PetFinder or our website, they will almost always click on it out of curiosity because it’s so unusual to see one. And that’s one thing that makes Poodle Rescue different. We try to have a video for each of our dogs. New dogs come and go everyday so the process never ends and we always need volunteers to help in this area. If we embed our videos via Youtube we can make them as long as we want so you can get as creative as you want. If you enjoy thinking outside the box this might be just the volunteer assignment for you. Sometimes we keep the dogs on a leash while we video them, sometimes we let them run free and sometimes if they are real shy we video them while they are being held. This creates an additional need for volunteers to help the videographers.
