Guinnette Peebles, with a life-long love of animals (poodles in particular) recognized the desperate need to address the stray, shelter, and surrender poodle population. And so began the journey to be the difference.
In 1999, The Bluebonnet Poodle Club asked for a volunteer for rescues, so Guinnette, having the land and the love, accepted the job. She and her husband donated 1 acre of their land in Houston, Texas to become the home of Poodle Rescue of Houston, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization chartered by the state of Texas. And so from small beginnings the rescue effort grew. PRH typically has 50 dogs in its program (adoptable and in rehabilitation) at any given time, but sometimes nearly that number is gathered in a single day.
Over the years with the help of community donations, personal funds and a deep commitment to its mission, Poodle Rescue of Houston grew into a fully functional and operational shelter.
In 2007, Rescue Bank came on board to help us by donating puppy/dog food when they could, and that relationship continues to this day.
In 2017, our goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home 500+ dogs this year! Media A-Team, Inc. came on board donating their services in the area of website and marketing.
Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and find forever homes for distressed poodles, poodle mixes and "honorary" poodles.
We have been in operation for seventeen years and have saved thousands of dogs from greater Houston and a five-state region. Most of the animals we rescue are strays who were abandoned, injured, or special needs animals that would otherwise have no other chance at life.
"We don't just save dogs; we save people too."
